About Us
Light a Girl Initiative is a community-based organization committed to ending Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), child marriages, and other harmful cultural practices in Elgeyo Marakwet and neighboring counties.
Our Story
The initiative was born from the lived experience of its co-founder, a survivor of FGM who transformed her personal pain into a platform for advocacy and change. Recognizing that no single voice could end the cycle of FGM, Light a Girl Initiative was created to unite survivors, empower girls, and mobilize communities toward lasting change.
Our Mission
To empower girls and women to reclaim their rights, amplify survivor voices, and break the cycle of harmful cultural practices through education, advocacy, and community-driven solutions.
Our Vision
A society where every girl is free from harmful cultural practices and able to realize her full potential with dignity and hope
